parishes, ascension, lafourche and jefferson, were selected by fema to receive grants that will benefit their communities. here are details about the projects:</p> <ul> <li><strong>ascension parish: </strong>a $39 million project to fortify nearly 60 miles of power lines, protecting around 5,900 customers and critical infrastructure, including a hospital, schools and government buildings. the project is expected to prevent 5.6 million hours of outages and save nearly $140 million in restoration costs over the next five decades.</li> <li><strong>lafourche parish:</strong> a $25 million project to strengthen 16 miles of power lines, benefitting approximately 13,700 customers, including critical infrastructure like port fourchon and local government buildings. this initiative is expected to prevent more than 550,000 hours of power interruptions over the next 50 years, saving nearly $70 million in restoration costs.</li> <li><strong>jefferson parish</strong>: a $27 million project to harden over 20 miles of power lines that will benefit over 10,500 residences, numerous local businesses and critical infrastructure, including several government buildings and facilities from law enforcement to drainage. the project is expected to prevent more than eight million hours of power interruptions over the next 50 years and save nearly around $165 million in restoration crews are continuing to work on restoring power to a small number of customers along certain water routes, as well as some customers in the hardest-hit areas of terrebonne parish, with plans to have service restored in terrebonne by late tonight.</p> <p>the category 2 storm made landfall in terrebonne parish, packing sustained winds of approximately 100 miles per hour. in just three days, entergy restored power to 90% of customers who experienced outages, a remarkable achievement given that restoration timelines for storms of francine’s intensity have historically taken longer.</p> <p>the company credits its swift restoration efforts to ongoing training and enhancements made to its incident response program, thorough planning by utility leaders and teams ahead of the storm’s landfall comprehensive grid resilience plan was approved at today’s louisiana public service commission meeting in many, louisiana. the plan, which will take place over five years, aims to fortify electric infrastructure across the state, making the company’s power grid and the communities that depend on it more resilient, while safeguarding louisiana’s economic well-being.</p> <p>“our resilience plan is a proactive approach that will help bring more of our electric infrastructure up to higher standards, keep pace with mother nature and protect what matters most — customers, homes and businesses within the communities we serve,” said phillip may, entergy louisiana president and ceo. “although we have been building resilience into our power grid for years, we must accelerate those efforts now in light of the reality that storms are becoming more frequent and severe.”</p> <p>phase one of the company’s resilience plan includes 2,100 projects aimed at reinforcing critical structures on both
